Customers angry over flower no-shows on Valentine's Day

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) – A couple from Columbus wants some answers after a Valentine’s Day flower arrangement wasn’t delivered.

Donald Windland says he spent $65 on flowers two weeks ago from 1-800-Flowers.

Valentine’s Day came and went with no flowers for his wife. A check of the company’s Twitter and Facebook accounts show the Windlands weren’t alone in their dismay. Hundreds of customers have been complaining to the company.

The company has multiple listings with the Better Business Bureau, with ratings ranging from A to F.

The Windlands say the company told them they will get a refund. 1-800-Flowers is telling anyone who didn’t get their delivery to contact the company with their invoice number.

It rained all day today. I’m usually one of the people who feel a little down on gloomy looking days. I love the sun so much! But luckily today, I was busy in writing a Fabric Flower tutorial and experimenting on another tutorial. I can’t wait to finally have the photoshoot of my upcoming tutorials. I have to finish 5 of them by the end of this month so I can launch them this March. I’m so happy that design ideas have been flowing to me for the past 1 1/2 months. I really hope to keep the momentum for the rest of the year. Last year, I think I only released three tutorials. This year, I am committed to making 10 or more patterns.

Here’s a preview of my upcoming tutorials:

The Anna Sophia, named after the mother and daughter characters of my favorite local telenovela (soap opera) , 100 Days to Heaven. This is a no-sew tutorial and perfect in making bouquets.

The Mara from the Mara Clara Tutorial. Mara Clara is again one of my favorite telenovelas when I was growing up. It’s a story of two girls who were switched at birth (how original…but I still watched it anyway). Mara is the protagonist in this telenovelas who endured a million face slaps and did nothing but cry. Why is melodrama so addictive?

The Clara from the Mara Clara Tutorial. This tutorial is a little more elaborate and flamboyant than the Mara flower since it was named after Clara, the classic evil girl who loves to complicate things. I used a French Beaded Flower on top of the flower (The French Beaded Flower is not included in this tutorial).

I combined the Anna Sophia with the Clara Fabric Flower. Isn’t it pretty?

The Pretty Pleats Tutorial. This is the pattern I’m going to write next! I’m just finalizing the size charts for this pattern. This is what I have been experimenting all day.

The Rose Bud. This fabric flower is so easy to make! This is perfect in making wedding bouquets or as centers to other fabric flowers!

I hope I can finish all these tutorials before March. I’ll be going to Australia and visit my dear nephew and my dear sister for almost three months…from March to May.

Fellow RocNation labelmate Bridget Kelly warmed up the crowd by serenading them with a few hits from her recent EP, Every Girl.

After a short intermission, the lights dimmed slowly, as did the music set to entertain the audience. A steady, melodic aria pleasantly arose through the crowd from a smooth-sounding electric guitar. Anxious fans screamed in anticipation, affectionately awaiting the ever-so-sharply dressed R&B singer. Out struts Miguel dancing afront his microphone, while popping a kick split or two like a young Maxwell-inspired James Brown. The crowd joyfully sang along during his entertaining performance of tracks like “Quickie”, “Sure Thing” and an electronic remix of his album-titled hit single, “All I Want is You.” He even jumped in the crowd and embraced his fans during his jam finale. “Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you can’t live your dreams,” he lovingly told his fans before helping to introduce his co-headliner to the stage. While he made them wait, Wale’s fans roared with excitement for his NYC return as he entered the stage rocking a Bathing Ape camouflage hoodie for his opening set with the Ambition album track, “Legendary”. Stripping slowly throughout the night, eventually Wale stood wearing a black Mischka tank and jeans, infrequently chucking towels to the crowd of adoring female fans— memorabilia that struck a cord and led to a minor fight between a few faithful fans. Shrewsbury Flower Show boss to retire after 27 years « Shropshire …

The boss of Shrewsbury Flower Show is stepping down after almost 30 years in the job, it was revealed today.

Peter Road-Night will retire after this year’s flower show on August 10 and 11, following 27 years of service. Mr Road-Night held a dual role as secretary of Shropshire Horticultural Society and operations director of the flower show.

As such he has played a key part in organising the annual floral extravaganza over the years.

Now the society, which stages the annual show, is on the hunt for a replacement to shadow Mr Road-Night during the build-up to this year’s event, before taking on the role in the autumn.

Society chairman Brian Goodwin today thanked Mr Road-Night for his efforts.

He said: “I am very sad to see Peter go, he is leaving after 27 years of valuable service.

“He has taken the show from a time when things were very difficult to a very successful point. He is leaving on a high note.”

The role requires good management, financial, ma- rketing and organisational skills together with recent experience in managing a major public event.

This year is the show’s 125th anniversary. Despite falling on the closing weekend of the Olympics, organisers still hope to draw in the crowds with an Olympic-themed celebration.

Mr Goodwin revealed the society was looking into plans to put up screens around the Quarry that would show some of the action from the Olympic events taking place in London at the same time as the flower show.

He said organisers wanted to build on the success of last year’s show, which saw an estimated 50,000 people pour through the gates of the Quarry over the weekend.

About three million blooms were on display at last year’s event.
